Want to avoid loss of power? Getting intake Manifold runner or flap issues?
Our diagnosis and engine carbon cleaning is your best option!
Why does it get clogged up? As part of the emissions system, some of the dirty exhaust gases are diverted back into the intake manifold to aid reducing combustion temperatures, this in turn reduces combustion temperature and therefore the poisonous NOx gas that we are all so concerned about breathing in. The downside to this is that some of the carbon, resins, oil vapor residues that present in the exhaust gases coat the inside of the intake manifold forming ‘carbon build-up’. Over time this builds up to a point that you’d be shocked the engine is actually able to breath and run!
This leads to symptoms such as poor engine performance, lowered fuel efficiency, engine management warning lights and the limp-home-mode being activated (restricted performance), lowered fuel economy and rough idling. We have a great wealth of knowledge and specialise in the diagnostics and cleaning of the EGR system. This includes live data analysis using dealer level diagnostics equipment that we include in all our intake manifold cleaning services.
How do we clean the intake manifold? Firstly we’ll use our dealer level diagnostics equipment to assess the engine management error codes and complete live data analysis. Then assuming the vehicle is fit for cleaning we use our 1, 2, 3 or 4-stage engine carbon cleaning system that includes our world-leading Hydrogen carbon cleaning and our unique chemicals. This means in the majority of instances there is no requirement to remove the manifold for cleaning or replace it with a new part. On completion of the job, which takes approximately 45-60 minutes, we’ll reassess the engine management system and reset any fault codes.
Why clean the Intake Manifold?
The intake manifold is a set of tubes configuration to deliver the air to the cylinders. In all engines, this air comes through a filtered air intake designed to keep the engine and components such as the manifold clean. However, with the need to make engines more efficient and reduce emissions manufacturers have introduced an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system into the engine. The problem occurs due to the recirculation including oil, unspent fuel, and other deposits that as they enter the manifold then stick to the walls of the manifold tubes and begin to clog them up. The engine then receives reduced air flow, starts to become inefficient and doesn’t burn all the fuel. This leads to loss of performance and increased emissions and pollution.
Problems that may occur from a dirty manifold include uneven and a noisy idle (usually the first sign of the issue), a tendency to stall, misfires and hesitation (especially when the engine is cold).
Cleaning your Intake Manifold
There are numerous ways to resolve a clogged intake manifold and with varying prices.
The costliest option is to replace the component. Dependent on the vehicle manufacturer and engine type expect this to be in the region of high £100’s, if not £1000’s.
The moderately expensive alternative is to manually clean them. Most mechanics will recommend this – Why? Because they’ll earn well from the extensive hours it takes to complete the job. The price will be dependant on how bad the clogging within the manifold, labour rates and engine type but expect it to be in the £100’s.
The most cost-efficient solution would be our engine carbon cleaning service.
Preventative cleaning starts from as little as £89.99 (for a car)
If your vehicle has an intake manifold or intake flaps issue and therefore requires further assistance to resolve the problem there is no better alternative than a skilled UKCC technician providing our carbon cleaning service.
From just £119.99 (for a car). The advantages are:-
- Our Mobile Carbon Cleaning Technicians come to you
- Potentially no expensive parts
- No disassembly is required, therefore no expensive labour
- Completed in an average of 45-60 minutes so no requirement to leave your vehicle with a garage for days on end
- We are fully insured to complete this service at the roadside or wherever your vehicle is located
