Got a dirty or sticking Turbo? Sticky turbo vanes? Want to avoid replacing your turbocharger?
Our diagnosis and 3-step engine carbon cleaning is your best option!
Why does it get clogged up? Turbochargers are used to increase engine efficiency and performance. Using exhaust gases to spin a centrifugal compressor the turbocharger compresses and forces more air into the engines combustion chambers than would be achieved in a naturally aspirated engine i.e. at atmospheric pressure. This is known as forced induction. Unfortunately, these exhaust gases that are used to power the turbo are dirty and hot so over many thousands of miles carbon builds up is a natural occurrence causing the turbo to over / under boost and the vanes to stick.
This leads to symptoms such as poor engine performance, lowered fuel efficiency, engine management warning lights and the limp-home-mode being activated (restricted performance), lowered fuel economy and rough idling. We have a great wealth of knowledge and specialise in the diagnostics and cleaning of the turbo. This includes live data analysis using dealer level diagnostics equipment that we include in all our turbo cleaning services.
How do we clean the Turbo? Firstly we’ll use our dealer level diagnostics equipment to assess the engine management error codes and complete live data analysis. Then assuming the vehicle is fit for cleaning we use a 3-stage carbon cleaning system that includes our world-leading Hydrogen carbon cleaning and our unique chemicals. This means in the majority of instances there is no requirement to remove the turbo for cleaning or reconditioning and assuming it’s just clogged up / dirty this should resolve the issue. On completion of the job, which takes approximately 45-60 minutes, we’ll reassess the engine management system and reset any fault codes.

Met James this morning and had my 1.6 diesel golf carbon cleaned, unfortunately we were unable to map the car after James discovered a steel safety cage around my Ecu which would’ve been a risky job getting off. The carbon clean made a noticeable difference to the car and restored some performance to the engine. Very happy with the work done and James was very knowledgable as he talked me through each step of the carbon clean.

Had our DPF professionally cleaned yesterday, and the garage mentioned an injector fuel fault code! I have no idea about cars at all so I assumed the worse thinking they were going to have to be replaced costing hundreds! Found this company and thought I'd give them a go as the reviews were all brilliant! Booked an appointment online for next week, Matt phoned within an hour and said he could come over this afternoon which was brilliant! He explained everything to me making me understand it all more... he also found the air filter was snapped and would need to be replaced, he showed me how to do it so I could go and buy one, cost me £7 and I did indeed manage to do it myself instead of going to a garage and paying £50! Lovely guy, and a lovely service, car feels amazing and I willBe using you again! As a woman I'm very wary of garages/company's but I couldn't recommended you any more! Thank you!!

Had my passat, and father's passat cc (both 2.0 tdi 140 hp) remapped yesterday morning by James. I was glad to hear that the Egr could be deleted without having to buy the delete kit or having to get my hands dirty fitting it. We were happy with the increased performance and throttle response.. Very handy for overtaking. My father used to own a Mercedes c320 3.0 cdi and after buying the passat cc he felt the car was sluggish compared to his Merc. After James remapped his car first he took it a test drive and was happy that the car had more power. Would recommend Jptuningborders to anyone who wants that extra power or more throttle response for overtaking. Thanks again.
Other issues reasons a Turbo may not be operating correctly
- Unspent fuel and poor fuel atomisation leads to clogging of the exhaust, especially the DPF or Catalytic Converter. This leads to negative pressure on the turbocharger causing loss of performance and power. As this problem manifests it can lead to noisy and unbalanced turbochargers which will shorten their lifespan as well as white exhaust smoke and a high oil consumption.
- Splits in hoses that carry the compressed air from the turbo into the engine have a split or disconnected hose that causes a turbo boost leak.
Extend the Turbocharger lifespan
Just like all moving engine components, the turbo is lubricated by oil so first and foremost it’s critical that the manufactures recommended oil changes, using the correct oil grade, are adhered too.
It’s important to understand oil only works well as a lubricant when it’s up to operational temperature (usually between 190 and 200 Fahrenheit) so warm the engine up before hard acceleration will reduce wear and tear.
Don’t turn the engine off immediately after it’s been driven hard. Doing so will over a period of time cook the oil, this thickens it into a ‘sludge’ which would then clog all the oil channels leading to excessive wear on the turbo bearings. We recommend leaving the engine to run idle for a minute or two at the end of each journey. It sounds obvious but using the correct gear selection to reduce the workload placed on the turbo.
Cleaning your Turbo
There are numerous ways to clean or replace the turbo with varying prices.
The costliest option is a set of a completely new replacement part. Most mechanics will recommend this – Why? It’s generally their only solution. The price of a new turbo will vary dependant on brand and type but on average expect to be quoted anywhere between £500 and £1,500. An alternative to this is a reconditioned turbo which can be as much as half the price of a new one.
Then there’s our service, the most cost-efficient option, we’ll even clean your full air side of the engine at the same time!
Preventative cleaning starts from as little as £89.99 (for a car)
